As we look at this month’s theme of Revive, Reflect, Renew: A Journey to Inner Summer. Why am I sharing the “journey to inner summer?” As we are approaching the middle of the year and we’re embracing the warmth and vibrancy of July, we can use this time to recharge, to introspect, and reawaken the soul.
It’s important for us at this time of year to slow down from the hustle of life and focus on our emotional, mental and physical well being. As we venture through the month, this theme will be reflected through various practices, meditations, visualizations, sound baths, and certainly other pieces that I will share. I will be including these in a a new monthly program where I’ll give you a taste of that here, in the podcast and in the Facebook Group. How Mindfulness Can Help Revive Your Spirit
There’s an unwavering spirit within each of us, a spark that drives our passions, pursuits, and connections. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of our lives, we sometimes let this inner flame flicker. However, the radiant warmth of July presents us a perfect time to stoke this fire and rejuvenate our spirits. I experienced this firsthand several years ago when life had seemed to lose its sheen. I found my energy at a constant low. And with my practice of mindfulness, it proved to be the breath that rekindled my passion and vibrancy. And this was after I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
The cornerstone of mindfulness is staying present and acknowledging our emotions and experiences without judgment. This practice played a transformative role in my life when I was going through a difficult phase. At the time when I was diagnosed, it was like a dark cloud casting a shadow over my heart. The stress that was coming from that health challenge, I felt exhausted mentally and physically. It was then that I really dove in more to my mindfulness practice. And I start my day, middle of the day and my day I was practicing mindfulness meditation. I found a safe haven in the present moment, away from the swirling chaos. I have been meditating since 1980 and at this writing it has been 43 years. It has made an impact in my life.
But sometimes when we go through these physical challenges or health challenges that arise, we either run away from it and sink lower or we can embrace what we can to help us. Focusing on my breath in those early days of the horrible flare ups that I had, and releasing the anxiety about the future.. I wanted my future to be more like my past of feeling healthy and active. When I did this, my spirit felt lighter.
When we learn to dwell in the present, we start noticing the simple yet profound aspects of life that often go unnoticed. For me, it was the morning sun painting patterns on my wall, the taste of my coffee, the sound of birds and chipmunks chittering away. It was in these little moments that I found my spirit dancing, rekindling my inner flame. I felt more energized. I returned to some of my yoga practice. This was around the end of 2016 and into the first months of 2017. I did whatever I could. I realized then that life isn’t merely about grand achievements; it’s about cherishing the small moments, the now.
As the weeks went by, I continued my routine of meditation, mindfulness and yoga. It felt like opening a window in a stuffy room, letting the fresh air sweep away the staleness, and in doing so, illuminating the once-forgotten passions and pursuits that truly made me happy. I played singing bowls, crocheted and anything to burn the inner flame brighter. Maybe for you it is being creative in other ways: dancing, singing, cooking, gardening, painting. It can be anything that you love and lifts your spirits.
This led me from shifting out of our spiritual organization my husband and I founded, to what my guidance was sharing with me. That was to “meet people where they are” and do so in a new business venture in early 2018, and this is where I am today.
So, as we embrace the vibrant warmth of July, I encourage you to explore the power of mindfulness. Remember, your inner flame is never entirely extinguished; it just needs some attention and care. Through mindfulness, let’s breathe life into this spark, allow it to ignite our passions, and guide us toward a renewed sense of purpose. When we light up from within, we not only brighten our own lives but also radiate warmth and positivity to those around us. Together, let’s make this journey to revive our spirit and illuminate the world with our inner summer.
